Annotation2-Do human really have right to decide the life and death of stray dogs? The inequity between human and authority decides stray dogs’ death

 When we talk about the issue that stray dogs must be put to death with euthanasia, it relates to the imbalance between human beings and stray animals. While the power which human control is greater than the power stray animals have. They have no choice to be obedient to their doom of death. This thing is more complicated than we thought when we watch this video clip.

  This clip brings up something to think about the issue. First, the school can be regarded as epitome of authority. The structure of the power is like pyramid. Most people with less power will be the bottom of it, and fewer one but with more power can control or change the condition to what they want. It turns out that the condition is what the authority who are of less number want. However, the majority of the society has less power to control the situation. The crowd has less power than authority, but more power than animals. They can decide to keep or abandon their pets, nevertheless in some occasion, their rights of deciding is deprived. The school use brutal and inappropriate way to deal this problem, but this outthought way they used is not only an encroach to student’s basic right, but also the severe problem about live and death. We can make a rage of public opinion to prevent school to punish students, but dogs’ destiny does not change. The reason is because the focus is still on the students but nit dogs, although it is about whether their lives will be deprived or not.

   The way which authority deals the problems should be more reasonable, no matter on their stands or the measure they takes. There are some ways. Think not only on the focusing spot but also on the aspects which are ignored. Use the power you have over people in comfortable way for people to feel. Try to think more than one alternatives to replace on occasion not being expected. In this case, nor should the attitude of the school be so tough and change neither. You have to be reliable for your people; otherwise you will lose trust from people. If you determine to carry the dog away and punish the students, you cannot later say that you are dealing with the problem of dogs. Actually, you did not think for the dog, but just to escape from blame which comes from throng. If you really want to deal with dogs’ problem, let them die with euthanasia is not thoughtful conduct because you just want to take their lives away. Dogs cannot be taken or fed in the classroom, but you can a place for them. You can also use the devotion which students are willing to show to. Organize the students who want to do something for dogs, range their time to make a schedule to take care of them. When it comes to holidays, hire someone to take care of them. If you really want to respect their living dignity, there are many ways besides simply making them die or punishing students. It all depends.

 All over the world, the problem of stray dogs has been a debating for a long time. Although many people have thought up many ways to try to resolve or ease the problem, there are still many dogs wondering on the road. This difficult problem needs resolving, and the one who is the most straightly powerful is our government.  When we focus on the policies which deal with the problem of stray dogs in Taiwan, we will find out that the main idea of these policies is similar: using killing to control the amount of stray dogs. Many people agree with it because they think it is a painless way for dogs to die and this may be a simpler and quicker solution. However, it is not actually a painless and reasonable way after we saw this film clip.

 Life is individual and must be treated in respect, no matter it is alive or dead. Stray dogs do cause problems, and some people agree with euthanasia to solve this problem because they think it is painless. Nevertheless, euthanasia is cruel and pitiless. If these dogs can not be treated with dignity and respect when they are put to death, no one will focus on the right of living. Furthermore, no one will want to think deeper about do they really need to be put to death, but if we see the cruel truth presented in the film, we can try to force some people to pay attention to this way of dealing with their problem. The main problem which causes this kind of problem is because we do not regard them equally. We think we are superior to them, so we use our improvement to control and change the condition to what we want. Therefore, we can try to explain why euthanasia is painful. We just focus on the results that they are dead in the end, but we do not pay attention to the process. We just simply think that the medicine which put into their bodies must worked, but we do not care about the pain they endured will be severer.

 Why do they endure such pain? We think we have right to decide their lives and death, so we use our thoughts to put them to death. Euthanasia seems a kind way for them to die in painless way. However, when we decide to put them to death, the owners of breeding grounds keep making puppies to sell. Although we use euthanasia to make them dead to decrease their amount, on the other hand, we use breeding to fulfill customers’ need. How does euthanasia work in this occasion? What is the meaning for us to decide their lives and death in this occasion?

Annotation1- Is this occasion an euthanasia or a threat to death?

 Death penalty is a controversial issue for us because we regard human right as an important thing. Criminals are given many rights like reading newspapers, proper right of law. On the issue of animal euthanasia, many people will think that euthanasia is a painless way of death. However, if we see the cruel truth in the shelter or know how large amount of the stray dogs will die in one day, can we still keep quiet about this issue? First, the euthanasia technologists use a stick with fixer to drop the dog out. As we can see, the scene is so rough and brutal. The dog is not dead yet, it still has feelings like pain and fear. Nevertheless, it seems no one in this shelter has cared about this. Second, they needle to put the medicine into its heart, not just put it to death straightly, but sting it over and over again and make it longer dieing pain. Because the constant moving of the dog, the needle can not sting straightly to heart, but usually to pleural. The efficient of medicine will become slower and cause longer and struggling pain. This kind of occasions happen more often than stinging needles straight to their heart and make them die peacefully. Third, the dogs are just piled up on the wet and dirty floor to be thrown to burn. This scene shows that they completely do not have their own dignity at all.

  These three things shocked me most. The first shocking scene makes think the question like: why does the euthanasia technologist have to use that kind of tool to take the dog out? Can’t we use some ways that are tenderer and make them less painful? For example, use a rope for owners to walk their dogs. They can be taken out in peaceful atmosphere, without pain and fear during the process of being taken out to die. My thoughts to the second scene are connected to the thoughts of the first scene. If the dogs can be treated tenderly, then the procedure of taking them out will be simpler. Therefore, needling will be more efficient. Dogs can go through this process less painful, and people who need to do these things as work can finish it quicker and the burden of hearts can be less than before. The third scene is the problem of surroundings. If the place which used to kill the dogs is dirty, then in the same thoughts, the living surroundings are not comfortable for sure. Dogs are caught and cared by people; however no matter whether they are living or dead, their existence do not have dignity at all. Their lives will only be more valuable once people start to focus on their dignity. Is the euthanasia really reasonable, do people really have right to end other animal’s lives? If people are really going to make them die, the dignity should be provided and not be ignored.  

Issue Papers revised-Stray Dogs Issue

 Many dogs are born and abandoned everyday. In an accounting data from Humane Society of United States: approximately 6-8 million cats and dogs enter shelters every year. With so many dogs wandering street, homeless, suffering from starving and unsafe for their lives, pet shops still keep doing their business and many people who want to have a dog as pet still go to the shop rather than go to the shelters. There is an obvious problem that needs to be paid attention to in this phenomenon: The amount of dogs is already too many, but there are still many merchants keep breed puppies to sell. One reason why they keep doing it is because there are many people who want to buy dogs. We produce them, and then abandon them. The abandoned dogs cause many problems, some of them are even so serious that remind us to be aware of it. In fact, it is a hard and complicated problem. It is completely different from a math problem which has a specific answer. Everyone has his or her companion on this issue, so it is a question which has no correct answer. It is a debate which is argued for a long time, and doesn’t have something practical which can solve this problem. It may be eased in degree, but I think the problem will still exist for a long time.

  One thing I want to focus on this issue is the living right of dog and people. When people do something that hurt other’s right, they have to be punished with law. Therefore if you kill someone or make someone lose one’s lives, you have to be put on the death penalty. In other word, it means you lost your lives because you took over someone’s lives or made some serious mistakes that could not be forgiven easily.

We know that the way of executing keeps changing, and the reason is because we value human right as a more and more important thing. What we value is not only on life or death but also on dignity and enduring pain. With this concept improving, can we think up some more useful way to deal with this problem? What we have to do are decrease the amounts of stray dogs, provide them more comfortable space to live in, and try our best to make them deligated, etc. If we have strict procedure of ending a person’s life, why the procedure of ending a dog’s life can be so indiscreet? You can kill them one after one continuously in one day. 4-6 million animals died because they are homeless in United States. This data is only accounted in one year. Another data is over 60 dogs will be killed just in one day and in one shelter. Let us try to be more prudent about stray animal’s problems, otherwise, we can neither reach the balance between men and animals, nor can we decline the grievous injury we have done to these animals
